MOUND
MOUND takes flimsy insignificant materials and combines them to form a work of metaphorical and physical weight. The silver pillows are reject wine cask bladders (courtesy of Scholle) painstakingly filled with sand. The rectangular plan rises into a gently contoured silvery landscape for the human body.
MOUND evokes natural formations of windswept sand dunes as well as manmade earthworks of burial mounds or barrows. Using gravity alone in its construction, the resultant lounger is reassuringly solid and supportive. The sand filled foil bags appear to be quilted with the revealed final black valve suggestive of an inflated airbed.
